Alexander “Xander” Freeman, PMHNP-BC is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who provides compassionate, evidence-based care for adolescents and adults. He specializes in comprehensive ADHD evaluations, ADHD medication management, and the treatment of anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma-related conditions, and other mental health concerns.

Xander believes that effective psychiatric care starts with truly listening. He creates a welcoming, judgment-free environment where patients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their treatment. His approach is holistic and individualized, recognizing that mental health is influenced by many factors – including lifestyle, sleep, nutrition, relationships, stress, and overall wellness. Whether medication is part of your treatment plan or not, he works collaboratively with each patient to develop practical, personalized strategies that support lasting improvement.

He has extensive experience evaluating and treating Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in men and women. He understands that ADHD can present uniquely in every person and it can affect every aspect of daily life, from work and school performance to relationships and self-esteem. He takes a thoughtful, comprehensive approach to assessment and partners with patients to develop treatment plans that may include medication management, behavioral strategies, and lifestyle interventions tailored to their goals.

As part of Well Coast Medical’s collaborative care model, Xander works closely with consulting psychiatrist Dr. Stephen Seager, a renowned board-certified adult psychiatrist. Together, they provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and personalized treatment planning, combining the accessibility and continuity of care provided by a dedicated Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with the expertise and clinical oversight of an experienced psychiatrist. This team-based approach helps ensure patients receive thoughtful, high-quality care tailored to their individual needs while maintaining excellent access to ongoing treatment and follow-up.

Xander earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Providence and worked as a travel nurse throughout the West Coast, Alaska and Hawaii before specializing in psychiatry. He received his Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University. Inspired by both personal experience and witnessing the need for more accessible mental health care, he is passionate about helping people better understand themselves and build meaningful, sustainable wellness.

Outside of the clinic, Xander enjoys rock climbing, free diving, reading, and traveling. Born in Germany and raised in the Pacific Northwest, he now proudly calls Portland home.
